NATURAL DYES – WHY ARE THEY SO EXPENSIVE?
Natural dyes have been used for centuries to create beautiful colors and patterns in textiles. Natural dyes are needed to dye pillows in a way that is harmless to health and the environment. There are also rug dyes specially produced for natural rugs. However, they are often much more expensive than synthetic dyes. In this blog, we will examine why natural dyes used in the coloring of products such as pillows and rugs are so expensive.
Raw Materials
The first reason why natural dyes are expensive is that the raw materials needed to make them are often rare and difficult to obtain. For example, the cochineal, which is red dye made of crushed insects, is harvested from cactuses in Central and South America. Indigo, a blue dye, is obtained from the leaves of the Indigo plant, which is mostly grown in tropical climates. These substances are usually harvested by hand and require time and effort.
Processing
Once the raw materials have been collected, they must be processed into dye. This can be a complex and time-consuming process that requires specialized knowledge and equipment. For example, the root of the plants should be boiled, fermented and then kept in water for several weeks to be used. This process is more challenging and laborious than the synthetic dye process produced in the factory.
Yield
Another reason why natural dyes are expensive is that synthetic dyes generally have a lower efficiency. To produce the same amount of natural and synthetic dye, more raw materials are needed in natural dye. This ensures that the cost is too much.
Environmental impact
Natural dyes have less environmental footprints. They are nature -friendly and not toxic. Synthetic dyes contain chemicals that can pollute waterways and damage nature and animals. Natural dyes are produced with renewable sources and techniques transferred for generations. These dyes are more expensive than synthetic dyes and require more resources and more labor. Natural dyes are sensitive to the environment, as well as sensitive to human health and animal health. For this reason, they are used when coloring products such as pillows, table runners, rugs, american service that we come into contact with the most in our homes.
In this blog post, we tried to explain in a few items why natural dyes are more costly. Natural dyes are more expensive because of the combination of factors such as raw material rareness, processing confusion and difficulty, and environmental sensitivity. But this is the most special thing that makes them more valuable. For the reasons we have mentioned, wall arts, placemats and similar natural products colored with natural dyes can also be at higher prices. Regardless of the cost, we are sure that there are many environmentally friendly people who will prefer natural dyes to synthetic dyes!
